Barbara Bel Geddes portrayed Ewing matriarch Miss Ellie. Before taking the role, she was already a well-known actress, having appeared on Broadway and in films like Alfred Hitchcock’s “Vertigo.” Bel Geddes died in 2005 after a fight against lung cancer. She was 82.It’s been 35 years since the world wondered “Who shot J.R.?” The episode of “Dallas” in which crafty oil man J.R. Ewing was attacked aired March 21, 1980, and is firmly lodged in pop culture history. Here’s a look at the players then and now: Larry Hagman revived his iconic J.R. role in a 2012-14 TNT reboot of the popular nighttime soap. Hagman died in 2012 at the age of 81 of complications from leukemia.Linda Gray portrayed J.R.’s wife, Sue Ellen Ewing. on the original show; the two were divorced in the reboot. She directed several episodes of the original series and has continued to work steadily as an actress and director.As Bobby Ewing, actor Patrick Duffy was involved in one of the most memorable plot twists to air on broadcast television. Duffy also appeared in the new version and has had a reoccurring role on the Swedish sitcom “Welcome to Sweden,” starring Greg Poehler (Amy’s brother), which NBC picked up in 2014.Victoria Principal is best known for her role as Bobby’s wife, Pamela Ewing, in the original “Dallas.” She started a successful skin care company and last had an acting role in the short-lived NBC series “Titans,” which ended in 2001. Most recently, Principal has been known for her philanthropy, championing causes from domestic violence awareness to the environment.Ken Kercheval resumed his role as J.R.’s nemesis Cliff Barnes in the “Dallas” reboot. Over the years, she’s had bit roles on TV and the big screen, and in 2012, she joined the cast of the new “Dallas.” In 2015, she made a guest appearance on the ABC comedy “The Middle.”The character of Ray Krebbs, ranch foreman at the Ewings’ Southfork, was a fan favorite on “Dallas.” Steve Kanaly mostly stuck to cowboy types in the 1990s on shows like “In the Heat of the Night” and “Walker, Texas Ranger.” He appeared on four episodes of the new “Dallas.”Susan Howard played Ray’s wife, Donna Culver Krebbs. She left showbiz in the 1990s and is now known primarily for her activism, most notably for the National Rifle Association.
