Delta Air Lines is set to launch its inaugural flights from Miami to the capital of The Bahamas this fall, enhancing accessibility to this sought-after island oasis as the weather cools down.
The new route, commencing on November 5, will operate daily on a Boeing 737-800 aircraft, according to The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism. This flight will connect Miami International Airport with Nassau’s Lynden Pindling International Airport.
This route signifies Delta’s first direct flight from Miami to Nassau, as highlighted by the tourism board.
In a statement, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments, and Aviation Chester Cooper remarked, “This move is another demonstration of the incredible demand for the destination and the reward of our efforts to strengthen partnerships to increase stopover visitors to our shores. The route will help satisfy that demand, and it will also facilitate travel for Bahamians to Florida.”
This new flight route adds to Delta’s existing winter service to Nassau from Atlanta, Boston, and both New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia Airport.
Interestingly, Delta is not the only airline enhancing its services to The Bahamas this fall. JetBlue will also introduce new flights to Nassau from Los Angeles starting November 4, marking the airline’s first nonstop service from the West Coast to Nassau. Current flights to the island are already available from seven other U.S. cities, including Fort Lauderdale, Boston, and New York.
Travelers heading to Nassau this fall or winter will appreciate the ease of returning to the U.S., as the Lynden Pindling International Airport provides preclearance facilities, enabling visitors to complete U.S. customs before their flight. This efficiency is supported by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Last year, the Transportation Security Administration reported the opening of its first-ever TSA PreCheck location outside of the U.S. at this airport.
