Delta Air Lines is making it easier for families and larger groups to sit together with new dynamic seat maps. These maps block certain rows exclusively for larger parties, ensuring that groups of three or more traveling together can secure their seats. This innovative feature, launched prior to the pandemic in 2019, enhances the traveling experience by allowing families to sit together more comfortably.
The blocked-off seats will appear as available only when the group is on the same reservation, emphasizing the airline’s commitment to customer satisfaction. “Being a customer-centric brand means we’re constantly working to offer optimal experiences across travel,” a spokesperson from Delta stated. This approach enables travelers to select their preferred seating, whether booking in advance or at the gate, accommodating both individuals and groups alike.
The number of rows blocked for group bookings may differ depending on the aircraft, based on historical booking and seat assignment data.
However, elite SkyMiles members, particularly those with platinum or diamond status, retain the privilege of choosing those seats without restrictions on the number of passengers in their booking, thereby enhancing their travel experience further.
Changes to Delta’s SkyMiles Program
Delta has recently updated its SkyMiles program, providing more opportunities to earn points across various services. Travelers can now accumulate points on purchases ranging from groceries through Instacart to car rentals using Turo, a peer-to-peer car-sharing platform.
Nevertheless, in December, the airline revised its policies by ceasing the ability to earn SkyMiles or elite status on basic economy tickets. Also, in January, Delta implemented an extension on its eCredits, enabling customers who purchased tickets in 2022 to rebook through the end of 2023 for travel in 2024.
