Summary

  1. Delta and Instacart Partnership: Delta Air Lines has partnered with Instacart, allowing SkyMiles members to earn miles on grocery purchases.
  2. Earning Potential: SkyMiles members can earn 1 mile per dollar spent, with Instacart Express members earning 1.5 miles.
  3. Membership Benefits: SkyMiles Medallion members receive complimentary Instacart Express trials, enhancing their shopping experience.

Delta Air Lines has teamed up with the online grocery delivery service Instacart to provide SkyMiles members with additional opportunities to earn miles while shopping. This innovative initiative allows members to link their SkyMiles number to their Instacart account.

Earn Miles While Shopping

Loyal travelers will earn 1 mile for every dollar spent on groceries, while Instacart Express members will earn 1.5 miles for each dollar spent. This partnership aims to reward customers for their everyday purchases, recognizing that most shop for groceries more frequently than they fly.

Member Benefits

Josh Kaehler, the director of SkyMiles Partnerships at Delta, expressed the company’s commitment, stating, “We want our SkyMiles Members to feel valued and rewarded every single day.” He emphasized that this partnership is a way to provide added value outside of typical travel experiences.

Eligibility and Structure

It is important to note that miles will only be earned on grocery deliveries within the United States. Moreover, the total dollar amount excludes taxes, tips, and fees.

Complimentary Trials for Medallion Members

As a bonus, SkyMiles Silver and Gold Medallion members will receive a three-month complimentary trial of Instacart Express. This trial includes benefits such as free delivery on orders over $35 and five percent back on pickup orders. Platinum and Diamond members will enjoy a complimentary 12-month trial.

At the end of the trial period, members will automatically be enrolled in a full-year Instacart Express membership, offering continued benefits for their grocery shopping needs.

Recent Changes to the SkyMiles Program

Delta has made significant updates to its SkyMiles program, allowing travelers to earn points not only through flying but also via various partnerships. For instance, members can now earn points when utilizing services like the peer-to-peer car-sharing platform Turo and rideshare service Lyft. However, it is noteworthy that as of December 2021, Delta ceased offering SkyMiles or elite status on basic economy fares.

Enhanced Flexibility for Travelers

Furthermore, Delta recently announced the extension of all eCredits, which now allows customers who purchase new tickets in 2022 the ability to rebook those tickets through the end of 2023, with travel permitted in 2024. Such flexibility enhances customer confidence in airline travel.
