Maximize Delta SkyMiles with This Top Car Rental App

Summary of Delta Air Lines and Turo Partnership

  1. Delta Air Lines has updated its SkyMiles program to partner with Turo.
  2. New SkyMiles members can earn up to 2,500 miles.
  3. Turo provides a cost-effective alternative to traditional car rentals.

Delta Air Lines may have done away with SkyMiles on basic economy fares; however, the airline offers frequent flyers an innovative way to earn rewards.

Delta has formed a partnership with the peer-to-peer car-sharing service Turo to reward SkyMiles members every time they use the service. New SkyMiles members who try Turo for the first time (think Airbnb for cars) may earn 2,000 SkyMiles on their initial trip after linking their profiles. Moreover, passengers can earn an additional 500 miles with each subsequent booking.

“Delta and Turo share a passion for connecting people through travel, which is why this partnership makes so much sense,” Turo CEO Andre Haddad remarked. “Delta’s unsurpassed global network of destinations, coupled with our unrivaled network of Turo hosts, presents a significant advantage for travelers.”

It’s significant to note that Delta passengers who’ve previously booked with Turo won’t receive the same beneficial deal; however, they can still accumulate 500 SkyMiles on each booking after linking their SkyMiles and Turo accounts.

Turo provides travelers with an opportunity to book private vehicles, often at more favorable rates than traditional rental agencies. Depending on the driver’s age and the specific vehicle, Turo can offer a more budget-friendly alternative, as the platform has lower young driver fees compared to several rental agencies. The service gained immense popularity during last year’s rental car crunch, which saw prices soar and left many travelers in need of options.

Turo operates across over 7,500 cities in the U.S., Canada, and the United Kingdom. With an inventory that includes more than 1,300 makes and models, including various Teslas, some Turo vehicles can be rented for as little as $25 a day — a stark contrast to the high prices many travelers faced in popular destinations last summer.

As vehicles are returned directly to their individual owners, travelers planning one-way trips will need to have a backup plan for their return journey.

Delta additionally partners with Hertz, offering Medallion members from all tiers diverse opportunities to earn miles.
