Keukenhof: The Largest Bulb-Flower Garden in the Netherlands
At this time of year, the Netherlands is usually carpeted in beautiful tulips, attracting a huge number of visitors. However, the Dutch government has closed public places to prevent the spread of COVID-19, meaning these floral displays can only be enjoyed online this year.
This year’s famous Keukenhof Flower Exhibit has been cancelled, which is disappointing as it typically attracts a large number of visitors. This festival occurs annually in the 32-hectare Keukenhof, dating back to 1857, located in the town of Lisse.
Keukenhof is renowned as the world’s largest bulb-flower garden, boasting over seven million bulbs and 800 varieties of tulips. This spectacular garden opens for just eight weeks from March to May, offering breathtaking fields and displays of multicolored tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths in full bloom.
In response to the closures, the festival has initiated “Keukenhof Virtually Open,” sharing a series of videos showcasing the stunning grounds. Gardener Owen highlights the most beautiful hyacinths in the park, while managing director Bart shares his favorite spot in the gardens. Additionally, gardener Daan presents the Beach Garden, Mill Forest, and the fountain.
“In the months leading up to spring, extensive effort has been invested in providing visitors with a beautiful experience,” states Keukenhof. “The park is already blooming beautifully and will only become more stunning in the coming weeks. Keukenhof aims to share this with the world under the slogan, ‘If people cannot come to Keukenhof, we will bring Keukenhof to the people.’
