Walt Disney World Reopening: What You Need to Know
Fans of Walt Disney World in Florida will be pleased to learn that it is re-opening to visitors on a phased basis in July. However, new measures are being implemented in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring a safer experience for everyone.
Pending Orange County and state approval, the theme park plans to open its Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom parks on July 11, followed by Epcot and Hollywood Studios on July 15. Nevertheless, it has not revealed reopening dates for its other Florida parks, Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. Importantly, safety measures include reducing capacity at the parks and temporarily suspending parades, fireworks, and other crowd-drawing events.
Consequently, a new reservation system for park entry will be implemented, limiting visitors from walking up and purchasing tickets. As part of these new safety protocols, staff and guests will undergo temperature screenings before entering the parks and are required to wear face coverings during their visit. Roaming “high-energy squads” will enforce social distancing measures, and character meet-and-greets will not be permitted.
In addition, “high-touch” attractions like makeover opportunities and playgrounds will remain temporarily unavailable. Moreover, there will be an increased number of hand-sanitizing stations throughout the park. Contactless payment methods will be expanded to facilitate more cashless transactions. Additional measures include the installation of barriers to encourage physical distancing and enhanced cleaning protocols to ensure a safe environment for all.
Thus far, Disney has not indicated when Disneyland in California and its theme parks in Paris and Japan will reopen. For further information on the reopening of Walt Disney World, please see the Disney blog here.
