When I’m in the mood for a big night out… I’ll head to NOTO. This state-of-the-art nightclub regularly hosts special guests, including hip-hop star Travis Scott, and features an impressive drink menu. It’s essential to dress well (no sneakers, work boots, sandals, ripped/baggy clothing, or athletic wear), but the experience is worth it. Moreover, since NOTO is located close to Chinatown, you’ll find plenty of late-night dining options after the club closes at 2 am.
When I have friends visiting… I make sure they experience Spruce Street Harbor Park. This urban park offers stunning spaces filled with hammocks, dazzling lights hanging from trees, outdoor games, and much more. Delicious Philly food and drink vendors such as Hip City Veg make it easy to grab a bite while you relax. This lively atmosphere perfectly showcases what Philadelphia has to offer.
A typical weekend involves… a delightful brunch at Green Eggs Cafe. With locations in Center City and Northern Liberties, both spots are popular. However, my personal favorite is the Northern Liberties location, which has a BYOB policy allowing patrons to bring champagne for delightful mimosas paired with dishes like red velvet pancakes and fried chicken and waffles.
For my 29th birthday, I treated myself to… a visit to UBIQ. UBIQ is a renowned local sneaker boutique with an international following, offering a fabulous selection of sneakers for fashion enthusiasts of all ages. As a lifelong sneaker lover, I always find fresh styles whenever I visit this Philadelphia icon.
For cheap eats… Silk City Diner & Lounge is the go-to spot. From appetizers like delectable Thai chili chicken wings to entrees featuring Kabayaki glazed salmon, Silk City has a diverse and budget-friendly menu that guarantees an enjoyable meal. Plus, the diner often hosts dance nights and live music, allowing guests to savor a great meal before enjoying entertainment.
I take friends and family with kids to… Philly Flavors, known for having the best water ice (a sorbet-like blend of sugar and water) in the city, along with a fantastic assortment of homemade ice creams. The long lines are definitely worth the wait.
One thing I dislike about Philly is… the notorious potholes found throughout the city. Consequently, I often recommend exploring on foot and utilizing public transit to save your tires from unnecessary wear and tear. On a positive note, walking around often reveals hidden gems you might miss otherwise, like the South Street comic shop, Atomic City Comics.
The best place for a date is… Mixto, a lively Latin restaurant nestled in Washington Square West. Featuring outdoor seating when the weather permits, along with signature dishes such as Arroz con Pollo Cubano, it’s the perfect venue for an intimate evening filled with good food and engaging conversation.
I know I’m a Philadelphian because… I love experiencing my city all year round. Whether it’s relaxing in a hammock at Spruce Street Harbor Park during warmer months or enjoying warm apple cider at Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest during colder ones, there’s always something new and exciting to discover for both locals and visitors. Additionally, the affordability of experiencing Philadelphia makes it easy to seek out fresh adventures, even if you’ve lived here for years.
