Flying on Qantas’s Pride Flight

With the Southern Hemisphere’s first WorldPride event in full swing in Sydney, the city adorned with vibrant Pride flags is a sight to behold. The journey aboard the special Qantas Pride Flight was nothing short of a celebration. Passengers were transported into an exhilarating atmosphere at the upscale Qantas lounge at LAX, featuring a rainbow carpet, performances by drag queens, and a vibrant array of colors in the lounge.

The inflight experience was equally impressive. Passengers enjoyed a unique menu that included Kylie Minogue signature wines, engaging activities such as drag bingo, comfy pride-themed pajamas, and a variety of entertainment options including a makeup masterclass and featured WorldPride programming.

Spectacular Opening Festivities at WorldPride

The Live and Proud: Sydney WorldPride Opening Concert held on February 24 attracted an audience of 20,000 people at The Domain, creating an electrifying atmosphere. Notable performances by Courtney Act, Jessica Mauboy, Charli XCX, and Kylie Minogue filled the air with joyful music. Kylie Minogue was even joined on stage by her sister, Dannii, creating a memorable moment for the attendees.

The festivities continued the following night with the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade, led by the renowned group Dykes on Bikes. The parade showcased an array of extravagant costumes, incredible floats, and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese marched for the first time, marking a historic moment for the event.

Upcoming Special Events Celebrating LGBTQ+ Community

The Powerhouse Museum is hosting an exhibition titled Absolutely Queer that will run until the end of the year. This exhibition celebrates the creative expression within the LGBTQ+ community, presenting both contemporary and historical works that emphasize pride, protest, and creativity.

Moreover, the Sydney WorldPride Human Rights Conference will take place from March 1 to 3 at the International Convention Center. This conference is touted to be the largest of its kind held in the Asia Pacific, promoting significant discussions surrounding human rights issues.

Exciting events on the horizon include Laugh Out Proud, a comedy gala celebrating queer talent; the Sissy Ball, featuring vibrant competition among legendary houses; and a Pride Bridge Climb atop the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge.

The grand festivities will culminate on March 5 with a spectacular Pride march across the Sydney Harbour Bridge, expected to draw around 50,000 participants. Following this, the closing concert, Rainbow Republic, will feature performers such as Kim Petras, MUNA, and more, ensuring a grand finale for this memorable celebration.
