Nevis to St. Kitts Cross Channel Swim
Sunday, March 27 marks the 20th anniversary of the Nevis to St. Kitts Cross Channel Swim. Officials hosting the swim race between these two sister islands are excited to welcome participants for this celebrated event.
Swim Participation
For two decades, swimmers from around the globe have come together to take part in this thrilling 4-kilometer (2.48-mile) swim across the Caribbean waters. Despite the distance, this competition is designed for swimmers of all skill levels. Moreover, participants can use fins and snorkels, and are encouraged to swim at their own pace, making it accessible for everyone.
Marine Life Encounter
Swimmers can expect to encounter an array of native Caribbean marine life along the route. This includes vibrant tropical fish and the possibility of spotting sea turtles. Notably, this year, event organizers are collaborating with the St. Kitts Sea Turtle Monitoring Network to raise awareness for these endangered species. Additionally, there is a renewed partnership with the Kittitian chapter of the Special Olympics, promoting a Gifting Goggles’ initiative that asks visiting swimmers to contribute their used goggles to local youth swimming programs.
Competition Details
The swim begins at Oualie Beach on Nevis and concludes at the Reggae Beach Bar, Cockleshell Bay, St. Kitts. Participants can choose to compete as serious athletes without fins and snorkels. However, it’s essential to note that the current record, held by gold medal-winning Olympian Ashley Whitney, was set at an astonishing 55 minutes and 28 seconds.
