Contributor, Alicia Johnson, just returned from Las Vegas. Here, she shares some tips and insights for anyone planning a similar trip of a lifetime in the Nevada desert city.
Sometimes, visiting Las Vegas for a little pampering, indulgent meals, and watching top musical artists is the ideal getaway. This trip treated me to a delightful four-day experience filled with unique Las Vegas encounters, and I was eager to fully engage with the sights, sounds, flavors, and ambiance of this vibrant city. Here’s a snapshot of my journey.
Where did you stay? What was the vibe?
The Bellagio is one of the most iconic hotels on The Strip, providing the perfect backdrop for any Las Vegas stay. The spacious and plush rooms contributed to a relaxing atmosphere. My favorite spot was the comfortable seafoam-colored lounge chair in my room, accompanied by a roomy bathroom illuminated with perfect lighting.
Spanning 77 acres and featuring nearly 4,000 rooms, the Bellagio Hotel and Casino resembles a small metropolis. It houses high-end stores, exquisite restaurants, and stunning conference halls, all paired with the vibrant energy of the casino and the electric lights from the slot machines.
The atmosphere at the Bellagio is versatile; whether you’re looking to immerse yourself in lively activities at the tables or enjoy an evening out at clubs like Club Privé, there’s no shortage of entertainment options. Conversely, for a quieter vibe, The Vault—a dimly lit speakeasy tucked away from the casino floor—serves incredible cocktails and delectable small plates.
On a particularly hot day, the Bellagio pool provided a refreshing escape where I could sip on delightful drinks while lounging in a private cabana.
Most memorable meal in Las Vegas?
Las Vegas has gradually transformed into a culinary hotbed, attracting some of the industry’s finest chefs. Once known for budget-friendly all-you-can-eat buffets, the city now offers an impressive array of dining options. During my four-day itinerary, I enjoyed a bit of everything.
I savored dishes such as prime rib and sweet potato at Cathedrale, fried calamari at LPM, and a delightful cannoli at Parm Italian. However, the standout meal was at ORLA in Mandalay Bay, which features Mediterranean cuisine that surpassed my expectations.
Sharing a variety of dishes with friends made the dining experience even more enjoyable. My favorites included orzo with spicy duck, whipped chickpea hummus with warm pita, and a stunning saganaki topped with roasted wild mushrooms that was flambéed at the table.
Most scenic experience of the trip?
The most picturesque moment arrived as I walked into the Bellagio’s Conservatory and Botanical Garden. Vibrant flowers and trees set a stunning backdrop, with the centerpiece being three magnificent hot-air balloons scattered throughout the garden.
During my early morning visit after enjoying brunch within one of the balloons, I delighted in a selection of tasty bites, including avocado toast, flaky pastries, and cheesecake topped with fresh raspberries.
The Garden Table experience, which accommodates six people, offers a unique brunch or dinner option that must be reserved well in advance.
What was your favorite activity from the trip?
One of the primary motivations for my visit was attending a Bruno Mars concert. Having heard rave reviews from friends, I anticipated a captivating performance at Dolby Live. The energy was electric as I joined the crowd, singing along and swaying to the music.
After the show, I headed to The Pinky Ring, Bruno’s nightclub located within the Bellagio, which exuded a nostalgic ’70s vibe. The vibrant atmosphere and live music made it a fantastic spot to unwind, and I was pleasantly surprised when Bruno himself made an appearance to join the house band.
What was the most touristy thing you did?
No trip to Las Vegas would be complete without witnessing the iconic Bellagio fountain show. Despite feeling tired and needing to pack, I couldn’t resist catching the show, which runs every 15 minutes. Each performance remained as enchanting as I remembered, leaving me with a smile on my face.
Most under-the-radar activity you enjoyed?
I relished the unique experience at Particle Ink at Luxor Hotel & Casino, a show that defies easy description. This innovative performance utilizes light in extraordinary ways, offering intricate choreography, aerial displays, and a mesmerizing blend of 3D projections and live performances. It was a captivating journey from room to room, immersing audiences in a story that felt both engaging and surreal.
Best tip for someone who wants to plan the same trip?
Las Vegas is an ideal last-minute destination; however, to fully enjoy some of the city’s most unique experiences, planning ahead is essential. Whether you’re considering a trip or a frequent visitor to The Strip, placing your name on waiting lists for popular venues will enhance your experience.
