Summary
The Bermuda Triangle’s Mystery
Bermuda is embracing its enigmatic identity by marking the site of the infamous Bermuda Triangle, where it’s reported that 50 ships and 20 planes have mysteriously disappeared. Recently, the tourism board showcased a post about its new plaque on Instagram, branding it as the “official Northern Point of this legendary mystery.”
Location of the New Landmark
This plaque is situated in Bermuda’s capital city of Hamilton at Albuoy’s Point, within a triangular park that extends into Hamilton Harbour off Front Street. The area, known as Point Pleasant Park, now features the plaque along with a sign containing a QR code. This code directs visitors to learn more about the unexplained disappearances while inviting them to take photos and share them with the hashtag #TopOfTheTriangle.
Cultural Significance and Attractions
Hamilton’s Councillor, John Harvey, remarked, “Whether the Bermuda Triangle is a manufactured mystery or a paranormal force at work, it remains a fascinating topic. It is also one of the things we are most associated with, perhaps second to our well-known Bermuda shorts.” Officials are optimistic that the bronze plaque will become a sought-after landmark for visitors to explore on this 21-square-mile island.
Bermuda is also famous for its pink sand beaches, stunning caves, fish sandwiches, and over 300 shipwreck sites — each adding to the island’s mystery.
Additionally, while Bermuda hosts the northern point of the Bermuda Triangle, the southern point is Miami and the southeast point is San Juan, Puerto Rico, as per the details outlined on the new plaque.
To further delve into the lore of the Bermuda Triangle, the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute’s Ocean Discovery Centre presents an exhibit titled Bermuda Triangle: Unlock the Secrets. This exhibit explores various theories encompassing both scientific and supernatural explanations, including an alien display! The Centre also offers a Bermuda Triangle Tram Tour for those eager to visit significant sights around Hamilton.
