(STI), founded by Ila Loetscher, known as the ‘Turtle Lady.’ Alarmed by the decline of Kemp’s Ridley Sea Turtle populations, Loetscher established STI in 1977 to protect and restore these remarkable creatures. Today, Sea Turtle, Inc. continues this vital work and provides educational programs while collaborating with US Fish & Wildlife to monitor nesting activities. The rehabilitation center has transformed into a full tourist attraction featuring a gift shop and daily “Meet the Turtles” programs that educate visitors about sea turtles and the environment.
