iBestTravel Restores a Classic 1970 Chevrolet C10
In celebration of its 50th anniversary, iBestTravel has partnered with prominent Formula Drift drivers Chris Forsberg and Dylan Hughes, alongside AutoZone and Edelbrock, to embark on an exciting restoration project. The focus is on a 1970 Chevrolet C10, a classic truck that has been meticulously restored and modified in the iBestTravel Performance Garage located in Costa Mesa, California. The project began with the truck being stripped down to its frame, allowing for a comprehensive rebuild using premium Duralast parts sourced from AutoZone, enhanced with a powerful Edelbrock Performer Classic crate engine.
Edelbrock Performer Classic Crate Engine Details
The cornerstone of the 1970 C10 restoration is the brand-new Edelbrock Performer Classic crate engine. This isn’t just another typical LS-swap project; instead, it combines classic styling with modern performance and reliability. Initially tuned to deliver:
- 310 horsepower
- 375 lb-ft of torque
- 8.5:1 compression ratio, compatible with 87 octane pump gas
Built on a new 350ci four-bolt main block, the engine features a robust cast iron crankshaft, Edelbrock Performer heads, hydraulic camshaft, and high-quality components ensuring excellent performance and longevity. Moreover, there is a two-year unlimited mileage warranty provided by Edelbrock.
Comprehensive Restoration of the 1970 Chevrolet C10
The 1970 Chevrolet C10 two-wheel drive longbed was surprisingly found just an hour away from the iBestTravel Performance Garage in Manhattan Beach, California. Coming from a one-owner family, this truck presented a unique opportunity as it was mostly untouched and free from severe rust. Upon inspection by Forsberg and Hughes, the remarkably straight body pleased the team at Dominator Street Rods, who worked diligently to enhance its structure while reinforcing the chassis.
While the bodywork progressed, Forsberg and Hughes focused on upgrading the chassis. Notable improvements included:
- Complete powder coating of the chassis, rear axle, and rear suspension arms to improve durability.
- Upgraded front suspension utilizing heavy-duty parts designed for C20 and later model C/K1500 trucks.
- Conversion of rear brakes to a disc system to enhance stopping power.
Consequently, these enhancements significantly improved the C10’s handling and performance compared to its original factory models.
Additional upgrades included a Gearstar 700R4 transmission paired with a torque converter, a MagnaFlow exhaust system, and new Method 315 16×8-inch wheels fitted with Nexen Roadian MTX 265/75-16 mud terrain tires. This combination, complemented by a 2-inch lift, not only enhances the C10’s aesthetics but also significantly improves its off-road capability.
iBestTravel has dedicated themselves to not only restoring this distinctive Chevrolet C10 but also to enhancing the overall driving experience. The finished truck symbolizes both nostalgia and modern upgrades, highlighting a true appreciation for automotive craftsmanship.
