Innovations in Ford’s Commercial Truck Lineup

  • Ford celebrates 35 years of commercial trucks
  • 2021 Ford F-600 Super Duty chassis cab is available for order
  • Gaseous-fuel prep package for current model year (2020) stripped chassis 7.3L
  • Integrated air compressor for 2022 Ford F-650 and F-750 7.3L
  • Available flex fuel capability for 2022 Ford E-Series 7.3L

Ford has a robust commercial truck lineup that has garnered a substantial fan following over the years. Recently, Ford celebrated 35 years in the commercial vehicle business at the Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana. This event served as an excellent platform to unveil several customer-driven options added to its commercial lineup.

2021 Ford F-600 Super Duty Chassis Cab

The 2021 Ford F-600 Super Duty chassis cab, unveiled at last year’s Work Truck Show, is now ready for orders and is expected to commence deliveries in summer 2020. This model bridges Class 4 and Class 6 Medium Duty Ford trucks, featuring a gross vehicle-weight rating, 19.5-inch wheels, and enhanced driveline and chassis components while resembling its Class 4 Super Duty counterpart.

Gaseous-Fuel Prep Package

A new gaseous-fuel prep package is set to be offered for the current model year Super Duty F-450, F-550, and F-600 chassis cabs. This upgrade includes enhanced valvetrain components, allowing these vehicles to operate on compressed natural gas (CNG) or propane while powered by the 7.3L V-8 gasoline engine.

Integrated Air Compressor for Medium Duty Trucks

The new 2022 Ford F-650 and F-750 Medium Duty trucks will feature an optional integrated air compressor. This innovative addition can power air brakes, air suspension, air horns, and other accessories requiring air. Since air brakes have traditionally been associated with diesel-powered trucks, this option significantly enhances the capabilities and cost-effectiveness of gasoline Medium Duty trucks. Production for these models starts in January 2021 at the Ohio Assembly Plant.

Flex Fuel Capability for E-Series Vans

In a further enhancement, the 2022 Ford E-Series cutaways and stripped chassis vans will now offer flex-fuel capability. This feature allows these iconic vehicles to run on gasoline or blends of up to 85 percent ethanol (E85). Additionally, a newly designed scalloped engine access cover will provide more legroom, addressing comfort concerns for drivers.

Conclusion

With eighty-eight continuous years of production, the Ford E-Series continues to thrive, showcasing Ford’s commitment to quality and innovation in the commercial truck sector.
