Ford Maverick: The Upcoming Compact Pickup Truck
Back in May, a legit-looking rendering of a small pickup truck tailgate with the name “Maverick” stamped on it began circulating around the web. Initially, we were hesitant to fully embrace the theory that Ford’s upcoming compact truck would indeed be called Ford Maverick, as other names, such as Courier, also seemed plausible. However, recent developments have bolstered our confidence in this theory, as that CAD design has transitioned into the pre-production prototype stage.
A recent photo leak has surfaced, capturing the same tailgate design we noticed prior, now manifested in an authentic metal tailgate skin. The font aligns with what we’ve identified on various Ford trucks, including the Ranger and the recently unveiled Ford Bronco SUV. Moreover, the tailgate’s dimensions in relation to the indentation for the Blue Oval emblem imply that this design is relatively compact.
As reported earlier, Ford’s upcoming compact pickup truck is set to share the unibody platform utilized by the Ford Focus, which is currently not available in the U.S. This front-drive-based truck, once speculated to be named Courier or Ranchero, will be positioned beneath the Ranger in Ford’s truck lineup. Additionally, it will fill the void left by the discontinued Focus Activ crossover wagon.
Design and Anticipation
Visually, it’s suggested that the compact truck will adopt design elements from its body-on-frame Ranger counterpart and will diverge significantly from the Brazil-produced Ford Courier present in other markets. Based on this tailgate design, the intel aligns with the expected attributes.
Release Timeline
While we are eager to witness the final design of the Ford Maverick, the continuation of leaks could determine how soon we might get a look at it. It is anticipated that the compact pickup won’t hit the market until 2022.
