Frontier Airlines Updates Check-in Policy
Frontier Airlines will be implementing a new check-in policy that shortens the window for in-person check-in and bag drop, which means travelers must arrive at the airport earlier.
New Check-in Rules Explained
As of August 16, the low-cost airline will be closing its ticket counters for both check-in and checked baggage 60 minutes before a scheduled departure. Previously, this cut-off was set at 45 minutes prior to takeoff. This change aims to enhance the efficiency of the check-in process and facilitate smoother baggage loading.
According to a recent Facebook post, Frontier stated, “Important info for your next flight: Starting August 16th, all Frontier ticket counters will close for check-in and bag drop 60 minutes prior (previously 45 minutes) to your flight departure. We continue to be committed to getting you and your bags to your destination without interruption.”
A spokesperson for Frontier explained that this adjustment would ensure passengers have sufficient time to navigate through security and reach their gates. “It’s essential to allow extra time for bags to be processed by airport handling systems and loaded onto aircraft,” the spokesperson elaborated. It is also noted that this change seeks to create uniform cut-off times for both international and domestic flights.
Comparison with Other Airlines’ Policies
In contrast, other major domestic airlines have varying policies regarding check-in times based on the airport. For example, Delta Air Lines typically recommends that travelers check in at least 30 minutes prior to scheduled domestic departures, although this requirement extends to 45 minutes for certain locations like Las Vegas or Honolulu. Additionally, some airports, such as Toronto and St. Thomas, necessitate a check-in time of at least 90 minutes before departure, according to United Airlines.
In general, most airlines advocate that travelers arrive at the airport a minimum of two hours before scheduled domestic flights and three hours before international flights. This ensures adequate time for security checks and boarding procedures, promoting a smooth travel experience.
