Saype Unveils Monumental Mural in Switzerland

A French artist has unveiled a striking, gigantic mural in Switzerland with a hopeful message aimed at everyone struggling during the COVID-19 crisis around the world.

Painted on the landscape of the alpine resort of Leysin last month, the artwork covers a space of 3000 square metres and was created with biodegradable paints made from natural pigments such as coal and chalk. This eye-catching piece depicts a young girl with an open pencil case, surrounded by stick figures of men, women, and children who join hands to form a circle.

Called “Beyond Crisis,” the project was initiated by Saype, who aimed to send a global message of hope and positivity. “It is the current crisis which gave me the idea. Luckily, in Switzerland, the confinement was partial; this allowed me to paint outside. This experience inspired the unique nature of this work: the coronavirus crisis and the fact that more than half of the world’s population was confined to their homes. Furthermore, I wanted to highlight the importance of unity during this challenging time while already looking to the future,” Saype explained.

Switzerland was an inspirational choice as the canvas for this piece, as aerial images reveal lush green hills, sun-kissed valleys, and snow-topped alpine ridges in the distance.

Saype noted that the response to the project has been overwhelmingly positive, with reactions pouring in from around the globe. “I am fortunate. This artwork has been incredibly well received. People are genuinely touched and fully support the initiative,” Saype said.
