The appeal of mirrored cabins is undeniable. Their striking design not only captivates but also creates an illusion of invisibility by blending seamlessly with their surroundings. As a result, these innovative dwellings have been emerging nationwide, from the mountains of Tennessee to the picturesque California coastline. In 2022, Paradise Ranch Inn opened its doors—an off-the-grid glamping destination situated on 50 waterfront acres near Sequoia National Park.
Founded by Danish fashion photographer Kenneth Williard, this adults-only ranch features five glamping tents and four mirrored cabins nestled among the rocky terrains and lush trees, offering splendid views of the Kaweah River. Each cabin, crafted by the Estonian hospitality firm ÖÖD House, reflects stylish Danish minimalism harmonized with modern conveniences. Dramatic dark-wood paneling, achieved through the Japanese technique Shou Sugi Ban, adds a unique touch while maintaining aesthetic and functional values. The design promotes natural light, allowing guests to relish breathtaking 180-degree views right upon waking.
Moreover, heated floors, lounge areas, workspaces, and fully-stocked kitchenettes enhance guest comfort. Outside, private patios with hot tubs provide an ideal retreat after a day of adventure. Some cabins are equipped with fire pits, pizza ovens, and Hibachi grills, offering diverse options for outdoor leisure.
Williard explained, “I searched extensively for unique tiny homes, and upon discovering the mirrored houses from ÖÖD House, I knew they embodied eco-friendliness. The extraordinary aspect is how the houses blend into nature, allowing guests to appreciate nature without being seen themselves.”
Guests can indulge in a range of activities, including enjoying a cedar barrel sauna or finding tranquility on cliffside decks for yoga and meditation. A designated “hammock camp” features hammocks perfect for two, accompanied by a mosquito net for comfortable stargazing. Although this ranch promotes off-the-grid living, it also provides high-speed internet access, accommodating those desiring to stay connected.
Visitors can immerse themselves in scenic hikes within Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, experience exhilarating whitewater rafting on the steep Kaweah River, or simply admire the stunning Sierra Nevada vistas.
