Experience Go Ape: Thrilling Zip Lines and Treetop Adventures in Washington DC

Go Ape, a treetop forest adventure company, has opened its first location in the U.S. at Rock Creek Regional Park’s Lake Needwood in Rockville, MD. Spanning a length of more than seven football fields and with obstacles 40 feet above the ground, the Go Ape course features a series of zip lines, Tarzan swings, rope ladders, bridges, swings, and trapezes among the treetops.

The Go Ape in Rockville, MD was the first in the United States. There are currently 16 courses across the country in VA, CT, DE, IL, IN, KT, MS, MO, NC, OH, PA, SC, TN, and TX. The company is continuing to expand.

To participate, you must be at least 10 years old and stand 4 feet, 7 inches tall. An instructor provides a 30-minute training session before allowing you to swing through the trees at your own pace. The course comprises 5 sections, taking approximately 2 to 3 hours to complete.

Lake Needwood is located at 6129 Needwood Drive, Rockville, Maryland, approximately 18 miles northwest of Washington DC.

Training and Safety Instruction

The Go Ape instructor will demonstrate how to set up your safety lines, allowing groups to practice. You will proceed through some easy obstacles while supervised, ensuring that you are comfortable and secure.

The Go Ape Treetop Adventure at Rock Creek Regional Park features a series of zip lines, Tarzan swings, rope ladders, bridges, swings, and trapezes among the treetops. The platforms are designed to expand with tree growth, ensuring no harm comes to them. As you progress through the course, the challenges increase and you will surely gain confidence in your abilities.

The Go Ape obstacles soar 40 feet above the ground, presenting quite the challenge for those who may have a fear of heights. Climbing techniques are essential, so being in good physical condition is recommended to fully enjoy the experience.
