Travel to Hawaii with Ease: Hawaiian Airlines’ COVID-19 Testing Options
Those hoping to travel to Hawaii may be glad to hear that Hawaiian Airlines is making it easier to undergo COVID-19 tests before their trip. This initiative allows travelers testing negative to enjoy the islands from the moment they arrive.
The carrier will be offering convenient drive-through testing in select US mainland gateways starting from 15 October. Consequently, this enables travelers who test negative to bypass the state of Hawaii’s quarantine. Notably, Hawaiian Airlines is the second carrier to implement such a program; United Airlines has also announced pre-flight COVID-19 tests for passengers traveling to Hawaii.
Hawaiian Airlines has partnered with Worksite Labs to provide access to drive-through PCR testing using shallow nasal swab tests. Initially, testing will be conducted at labs located near Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO) international airports, with plans to expand to other airports across the country. Travelers who test negative within 72 hours of departure will not be required to undergo a 14-day quarantine upon arrival in Hawaii.
In addition to offering convenient testing, Hawaiian Airlines has implemented a comprehensive health and safety program that covers all aspects of a traveler’s journey. Passengers must complete a health acknowledgment form at check-in, indicating they are free of COVID-19 symptoms and confirming that they will wear an appropriate face mask or covering at the airport and during the flight. For those under two years of age and individuals who cannot wear a face mask due to a medical condition or disability, a health screening will be required prior to boarding.
Moreover, Hawaiian Airlines has its “Keeping you Safe” enhanced cleaning protocol, which continues to leave 70% cabin capacity through October for onboard distancing. The drive-through PCR testing facility charges $90 (€77) for results within 36 hours or $150 (€128) for same-day travel express service.
