Experience Marine Life at Four Seasons Resort Hualalai, Hawaii

Come hang out with Nemo and his friends in Hawaii.

Four Seasons Resort Hualalai, located on the Kona-Kohala coast of the island of Hawaii, invites you to discover spectacular marine life without having to hit the ocean.

Renovation and New Experiences

In early 2021, the resort announced a multi-million dollar renovation that encompasses enhancements to all guest accommodations and public spaces. This renovation proudly introduced the Kumu Kai Marine Center at the Resort’s King’s Pond, where guests can jump into a 1.8 million-gallon swimmable pond that serves as an aquarium and engage in unique experiences led by the resort’s team of on-site marine biologists.

According to Charlie Parker, the hotel’s general manager, “The new experience at King’s Pond is designed to combine marine education, interactive exclusive offerings, and relaxation.” This initiative was developed in collaboration with marine biologist David Chai, emphasizing the resort’s commitment to marine and ocean preservation.

King’s Pond, created from carved lava rock, is home to 1,000 tropical fish, all of whom receive expert care from Chai and his team of marine biologists.

Learn and Explore

The Kumu Kai Marine Center at King’s Pond offers guests opportunities to learn about aquatic life through various educational resources, including a touch tank and digital displays. Moreover, unique activities such as private eagle ray feeding, a fish derby, and a tide pool tour are designed to engage guests, including programs like the Jr. Marine Biologist Experience and “Turtles and Tales” for children.

Marine biologist Kelsey Makida emphasizes, “King’s Pond is just so natural in its own unique way. Experiencing the eagle ray swimming towards you creates a fantastic opportunity for relaxation and disconnecting from stress. A swimming pool next to a one-and-a-half-million-gallon aquarium pond is profoundly unique.”

Additionally, the resort’s executive chef Richard Polhemus has crafted a gourmet poolside menu that showcases the best sustainable and local ingredients. Enjoy fresh cuisine while savoring views of the marine environment.
