Exploring Harwood District: A Hidden Gem in Dallas
As a fourth-generation Dallasite, my recent visit home took me by surprise as I discovered the Harwood District. This vibrant area features a wealth of hidden gems, offering visitors easy walking access to the city’s largest entertainment complex, premier museums, and popular trails.
There’s one thing all visitors should know before traveling to Dallas-Ft.Worth: you’ll be in the car a lot. In these two sprawling cities, it’s rare to find a central area that allows you to avoid highway traffic and nightlife chaos completely.
Dining Experiences in Harwood
Harwood District is a carefully curated space designed by Harwood International, a family-owned real estate and development firm. The 19-block district showcases impressive architecture by notable designers like Kengo Kuma and features an expanding choice of food and beverage options. A highlight is La Rue Perdue, a cobblestone street reminiscent of European sidewalk cafes, offering an array of dining establishments including a pub, pizzeria, and small market.
The Crown Jewel: Hôtel Swexan
Among Harwood District’s treasures is the newly opened Hôtel Swexan, blending Swiss design with Texan hospitality. This design-centric hotel reflects the personal travels and heritage of its owners, combining exceptional service with a high-end experience. With 134 spacious rooms and a rooftop pool, guests enjoy a touch of luxury with premium features that cater to a refined atmosphere.
Amenities and Attractions at Hôtel Swexan
The hotel offers a curated range of dining experiences, with Stillwell’s being the standout. Named after Texas ranching icon Hallie Stillwell, this restaurant showcases mid-century ranch style with cozy interiors and a unique beef program sourced from the local Akaushi ranch. To enhance the culinary experience, the wine program is expertly curated by Master Sommelier Barbara Werley.
Hôtel Swexan is thoughtfully designed by world-renowned architect Kengo Kuma, whose vision reflects the blending of Swiss precision and Texan warmth. As the hotel embraces this harmony, it sets a welcoming tone for all who visit, providing a memorable experience within the eclectic offerings of the Harwood District.
