Honda SUV e: Concept – A New Era of Electric Vehicles
There are many electric SUVs rushing the market right now, with more coming later this year. On the electric vehicle front, we haven’t seen much from Honda until the unveiling of the sleek electric SUV concept at the Beijing Motor Show. This exciting reveal follows the discontinuation of the Honda Clarity, the only EV previously sold in the U.S.
Striking Design Elements
The design of the Honda SUV e: Concept is so unique that if it weren’t for the badge on the vehicle’s nose, it would be hard to identify as a Honda. Key design features include:
- Long, squared-off hood
- Exaggerated wheels
- Extremely thin headlights and taillights
The inspiration appears to diverge from past models, showcasing a modern take on Honda’s design language.
Advanced Technology Integration
This concept SUV comes equipped with next-generation Honda Connect technology, featuring:
- An AI assistant interface
- Wireless updates
- Advanced Honda Sensing driver assistance technology
These enhancements utilize a wider front camera angle and new 360-degree radar technology for improved peripheral vision, allowing the system to assist in more complex driving scenarios. Demonstrational testing for this groundbreaking technology is slated to begin by the end of the year in China, a fitting location since this concept previews Honda’s vision for a future mass-production EV aimed primarily at the Chinese market.
Honda’s EV Journey
In the U.S., Honda’s previous EV offering, the all-electric Clarity, left a modest impression before its discontinuation. The Clarity’s limited driving range of only 89 miles was indeed uncompetitive compared to other affordable electric vehicles, such as the Nissan Leaf and Volkswagen’s E Golf, which boast over 100 miles per charge.
Looking Ahead
Despite these challenges, Honda remains optimistic about the future of electric vehicles, stating, “We will be introducing new, highly appealing all-electric vehicles for the U.S. market in the years ahead.” It is hoped that one of these upcoming models will encapsulate the innovative spirit of the Honda SUV e: Concept.
