Hotel Company Introduces Autism Concierges for Neurodiverse Travelers

Karisma Hotels & Resorts: Inclusive Travel for Neurodiverse Families

Specialized Support for Neurodiverse Travelers

Traveling can present unique challenges for neurodiverse individuals, particularly those with autism. To address these needs, Karisma Hotels & Resorts has partnered with Autism Double-Checked to provide Autism Concierges. This initiative aims to assist guests traveling with a child with autism or adult guests with autism in having enjoyable and stress-free vacations.

Dedicated Assistance for Families

The Autism Concierge team is specifically trained to support families throughout their stay at select resorts in Mexico and the Dominican Republic. They act as dedicated points of contact for questions and guidance before and during the stay. Moreover, all staff members at Karisma properties have completed comprehensive training to ensure a welcoming and accommodating environment for families of all abilities.

The Autism Concierge service is available at several of Karisma’s properties, including:

  • Azul Beach Resort Riviera Cancún

Impact on Travel for Families with Autism

Despite the significant number of individuals affected by autism, families often face barriers when it comes to travel. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in 36 children and nearly 5.4 million adults in the United States are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). However, only 13 percent of families with members who have autism actually travel, as highlighted by a survey from the Family Travel Association and International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards.

Fortunately, travel companies are beginning to adapt their services to ensure inclusivity for families. For instance, Legoland has designated every resort as a Certified Autism Center, while Quasar Expeditions provides Galapagos sailings tailored specifically for families with children on the autism spectrum.
