While there are plenty of amazing places to stay in the Hudson Valley region, a recent visit to Hutton Brickyards showcased why it’s a cut above the competition.

Nature is the star attraction here: The hotel features a massive parcel of waterfront, backed by hills and forests, providing a sense of rural tranquility, although it’s less than 10 minutes by car from downtown Kingston, New York. Additionally, while Hutton Brickyards maintains industrial vibes—with a notable gantry crane and other historical relics—there’s an abundance of natural serenity throughout the grounds.

The chilled-out vibe is enhanced by the bungalow colony aesthetic of the 31-suite resort, which features a variety of custom-built one-bedroom and Escape RV tiny homes. One larger option, The Cottage, can accommodate up to four guests in a private bedroom and a loft. Most accommodations boast tremendous views of the river.

Each of the guest rooms provides ample indoor space and at least one outdoor porch for lounging. For those who indulge in local brews, there’s an opportunity to enjoy Kingston Standard Sour IPA during your stay. Additionally, bathrooms feature Malin + Goetz bath products in eco-friendly bottles. One charming touch is the “Thirsty” flag you can hang outside your door during happy hour when a golf cart stocked with canned wine and cocktails makes its rounds.

Staff can arrange archery lessons, falconry demonstrations, croquet tournaments, or ladder golf games. You may also enjoy a s’mores buffet at one of many fire pits or a kayaking expedition on the beautiful Rondout Creek. For those who prefer more relaxing activities, the wine-barrel saunas and outdoor yoga classes are excellent options as well.

Fortunately, dining at Hutton Brickyards exceeds the typical summer camp offerings. Chef Dan Silverman leads the River Pavilion, where many elegantly prepared dishes are cooked over live fire. Highlights include the standout roast chicken with salsa verde and red cress, alongside roasted apricots with burrata, grilled snap peas with pecorino, and shishito peppers with bottarga. There’s also a well-stocked bar available for those looking for a refreshing drink.

Notably, the hotel is a project of Salt Hotels, known for operating Eben House and Salt House Inn, two distinct vacation escapes in Provincetown, Massachusetts. The company is also creating another property in Miami Beach, Hotel Greystone.
