Jack Doherty’s McLaren Crash: A Cautionary Tale
It’s unclear how fast he was going, but Doherty thought it would be a good idea to look down at his phone to try and read the livestream chat. Just a few seconds later, Doherty’s McLaren hydroplanes, and he can be heard yelling “no, no, no!” as he loses control and crashes into a barrier. The video goes white at the impact, and Doherty, along with his passenger, can be heard struggling to get out of the vehicle.
Eventually, some good Samaritans came to help by breaking the McLaren’s window and pulling Doherty and his passenger out of the vehicle. It appears that as he was being rescued, Doherty attempted to get his rescuers to take his phone to continue recording.
One of the first sights after both individuals are out of the vehicle is the bloodied face of his passenger. Viewers quickly clipped the crash and it went viral on social media. Many commented on how Doherty encouraged his clearly injured cameraman to keep filming.
The story is still developing, but Doherty seems to be okay. His passenger, who is also the cameraman, required stitches to close some wounds on his face, but otherwise appears to be fine. They are both very fortunate that things did not end much worse.
It doesn’t matter if you drive a 560-horsepower supercar or a base-trim Honda Civic; taking your eyes off the road to read a text while driving is always a bad idea. It can put your life and the lives of others at serious risk. Doherty may be an influencer, but this is one behavior his viewers definitely shouldn’t emulate. Nothing on your phone is that important.
