Jake Dennis: Insights from the British Formula E Champion on Travel Essentials and Bucket List Adventures

Travel Insights from Formula E Champion Jake Dennis

Jake Dennis knows how to drive the fastest, lightest, and most powerful electric race car ever built. Most impressively, he recently clinched the 2022-23 Formula E world championship on home soil.

Originally from Warwickshire, Dennis now resides in London, making the London E-Prix in July particularly meaningful. The indoor-outdoor track at the ExCel exhibition center resembles a neon arcade game, complete with food trucks and thrilling engine noises in the background.

Exploring Formula E

Since its inception in 2014, Formula E has seen remarkable growth in popularity. What should fans know about it?

“The standout feature of Formula E is that it’s a fully electric racing championship, signifying sustainability while it travels around the globe. Races occur in various cities, ensuring we never return to the same track twice in a season.”

Favorite Destinations

This season saw 11 diverse destinations. Which city outside the track did you enjoy the most?

“Cape Town blew me away. The food is fantastic and affordable, especially the butterfish, which is a must-try. The weather was perfect during our visit at the end of summer, not too hot. Next year, I’m really looking forward to Tokyo.”

The Final Race in London

As the 2022-23 season wraps up in London, what are you most excited about?

“Being my home race, it holds extra significance. Last year’s London race was spectacular, with engaging pre-race activities. This year promises to elevate that experience, featuring exciting performances and the championship decider, adding to the pressure.”

Local Favorites

What are your favorite spots in London?

“Currently, I’m at Madera at the Treehouse Hotel, one of my favorite dinner spots. They boast a fantastic rooftop called The Nest, where I celebrated my birthday. When the weather is nice, I prefer outdoor dining. Madison in St Paul’s is another favorite.”

Neighborhood Love

Which neighborhood do you love most in London?

“I enjoy living around Fulham and Chelsea. The area is lovely and convenient for travel to Heathrow. Shoreditch also stands out with its rooftop venues; Shoreditch House, in particular, is a highlight.”

Dining Experiences

Which restaurant do you frequent the most?

“As a seafood enthusiast, I often return to COYA. It’s lively and fun with great food and atmosphere, located in several exciting destinations.”

Valuable Travel Tips

What travel hacks have you learned from your racing career?

“I now travel with hand luggage only, using a Tumi hard case. It has completely transformed my travel experience. I previously lugged around a large suitcase, wasting time at airports while waiting for my luggage. Additionally, packing a wash bag is essential to keep clean and worn clothes separate.”

Weekend Getaways

Where do you escape to on your days off?

“When not racing, I enjoy serene weekend getaways to quaint cottages in the Midlands or even up north. Soho Farmhouse in The Cotswolds is one of my cherished destinations.”

Dream Drives

Is there a particular route you dream of driving?

“I’d love to cruise along the coast. A friend in Cape Town mentioned a scenic two-to-three-hour coastline drive, which is now on my bucket list. I’ve driven down the Blue Mountains in Australia and highly recommend it as a memorable experience.”

Future Travels

What bucket list destinations are you hoping to visit?

“I’ve checked a few off my list this year while racing, with Brazil and Tokyo included. Next, I hope to travel to Thailand and the Maldives.”
