New Traveler Protection Fee in Jamaica
Jamaica is implementing a mandatory fee of $40 (€34.27) for all visitors entering the country. This fee is designated to cover traveler protection, emergency medical services, and crisis response. The Jamaica Cares initiative aims to boost confidence among travelers eager to visit the island once again.
Partnership for Safety and Security
The Global Tourism Resilience Crisis Management Centre is leading the coordination of this program, alongside travel crisis management provider Global Rescue and two travel health insurance firms. Jamaica is pioneering a partnership that creates a comprehensive pandemic safety response program, covering treatment costs, field rescue, evacuation, and repatriation related to medical emergencies, including COVID-19 and natural disasters.
Comprehensive Coverage Offered
This service encompasses case management, transport logistics, and international health coverage of up to $100,000 (€85,679) for visitors traveling to and from Jamaica, in addition to on-island health coverage of up to $50,000 (€42,839). “Jamaica Cares addresses an essential need in the travel sector by delivering primary medical coverage and medical evacuation services,” states Hon. Edmund Bartlett, co-chairman of Global Tourism Resilience and Crisis Management Centre. “Travelers will know they are protected, and others are too. This assurance is crucial for restoring traveler confidence.”

Protocols in place include mandatory temperature checks, a negative COVID-19 test result, and the completion of a Travel Authorization application.
