Overview of the Plaza Art Fair
One of Kansas City’s favorite traditions is the Annual Plaza Art Fair. What started in 1932 has become one of the nation’s top five art fairs with over nine blocks of art, crafts, and jewelry featuring top artists from the metro, nation, and around the globe.
What many don’t know is that over 1,500 artists compete in a juried process to make the cut each and every year.
Not Just an Art Fair
The Plaza Art Fair is one of Kansas City’s time-honored traditions. The weather is almost always perfect, and attendees get to showcase their cool fall outfits. While many people attend primarily for the art, a significant portion also joins to reconnect with friends, indulge in people-watching, enjoy some wine, and savor great food.
Food Finds
One of the main attractions of the Plaza Art Fair is the culinary delights on offer. Restaurants from around the Plaza bring their culinary expertise to the streets, setting up vending booths with a variety of beverages and food options throughout the fair. Popular eateries like Tomfooleries, The Classic Cup, and Bo Lings showcase an impressive array of offerings, from juicy hamburgers and hot dogs to savory lamb shanks and delightful desserts, ensuring there’s something for everyone.
Participating restaurants occupy the following locations:
- On the East and West side of Halls.
- On the North side of Ward Parkway, between Williams Sonoma and Plaza III.
- On Wornall, between Williams Sonoma and Cole Haan.
Parking
Parking can be challenging during the Plaza Art Fair, regardless of your approach. Arriving early may grant you access to one of the free parking garages. However, if you arrive late, be prepared to face traffic congestion.
Your best bet is to park north or south of the area and find a street spot, then enjoy a pleasant walk to the fair. Additionally, there are parking options available to the west of the Plaza, providing more convenient access.
