LaGuardia Airport’s Upgraded Terminal Opens for Travelers This Weekend

LaGuardia Airport’s New Terminal B Opens to the Public

LaGuardia Airport’s new Terminal B, the latest iteration of the airport’s long-planned revamp, will open to the public this week, as unveiled by New York’s Gov. Andrew Cuomo. This new terminal represents a significant step in enhancing the travel experience for passengers.

Set to open on Saturday, this terminal continues to launch despite the ongoing challenges posed by COVID-19 impacting air travel. It will cater to major airlines, including American Airlines, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and Air Canada, according to Cuomo’s office. This renovation marks the latest update in an airport that has often been the subject of humor and critique, even making appearances on shows like Saturday Night Live.

Complete Renovation Effort

The airport, which was once a modern gateway to the Big Apple but later recognized as the most stressful airport in America, has undergone a complete $8 billion renovation.

Cuomo stated, “The opening of the new Arrivals and Departures Hall at Terminal B is the biggest milestone to date in the transformation of LaGuardia Airport into a world-class transportation hub that is worthy of New York State.” This new state-of-the-art hall is designed to enhance the travel experience with upgraded amenities, including:

  • Artificial Intelligence-based baggage screening system
  • Automated bin system for security
  • 17 new touch-free bathrooms

Moreover, passengers will enjoy a culinary journey with offerings from classic New York eateries such as Eli Zabar and Junior’s Cheesecake, allowing travelers to taste their way through the city.

Future Outlook for LaGuardia’s Terminals

Last year, Delta Air Lines opened the first concourse of its new Terminal C at LaGuardia, which boasts an impressive wall of windows overlooking Flushing Bay and Citi Field, alongside modern conveniences such as power outlets available at every seat. The governor’s office indicated that construction on Delta’s other terminals is ongoing, and a new arrivals and departures hall at Terminal C is expected to open in 2022.
