Lego Icons Lamborghini Countach: A Tribute to an Iconic Supercar
It may have been Martin Scorsese’s entertaining The Wolf of Wall Street movie that brought the funky Lamborghini Countach sports car back to the forefront of pop culture for a bit, but its iconic status was solidified well before that. Depending on who you ask, many would say that the Countach is the original hypercar and was the precursor to the wide span of interesting and wild, exclusive and sporty modern cars we see today.
This makes it not so surprising that the Lamborghini Countach has been included in the Lego Icons collection, especially since the toy maker has been pushing into the automotive space over the last few years. Specifically, this Lego set is based on the Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole. It’s well-timed to honor the late Countach designer Marcello Gandini, who recently passed away at age 85.
The 5000 Quattrovalvole was produced between 1985 and 1988 and is essentially the model that most people envision when they think about the Countach with all its flair. Consequently, Lego designers made sure to include as many of the staple features that fans of the model remember, including a V-12 engine, the classic deep-dish wheels, functioning scissor doors, and of course that rear spoiler. The model also has a working steering mechanism and a detailed cockpit.
In total, the Lego Icons Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole is made up of 1,506 individual pieces and, when completed, will measure in at 6.5-inches wide, 13-inches long, and 3.5-inches tall. Moreover, Lego says we should expect it to hit stores on July 1 at a cost of $179.99 per kit, which isn’t cheap, but still orders of magnitudes less costly than attempting to track down and buy the real thing.
If you still want a Lego version of the iconic Lamborghini Countach but perhaps have some desire to save a bit of money and desk or shelf space, you can grab the much smaller 262-piece Speed Champions version for the lower cost of just $19.99. Be warned, though: that one doesn’t come with a Jordan Belfort mini-figure, either.
