Summary
Fresh off a $50-million expansion of its sprawling Mayakoba property that included new lagoon overwater villas and beachfront pool suites, hospitality company Banyan Tree just announced it is adding another resort — its sixth — to its impressive Mexico portfolio.
Banyan Tree’s Expansion in Mexico
Banyan Tree Veya Bacalar, slated to open in 2025, will sit among the lush jungle of the Bacalar Lagoon region on the southeastern coast of the Yucatán Peninsula, near the Belize-Mexico border. This area is renowned as “the Lagoon of the Seven Colors,” reflecting numerous shades of blue in its waters. The forthcoming property will fall under the umbrella of the newly launched, wellness-focused brand Veya.
Details of Banyan Tree Veya Bacalar
The resort will cost $28 million to develop and feature 35 villas and five residences, providing guests with privacy and luxurious amenities. Highlights include a large pool and four waterfront restaurants. Notably, one of the eateries will be located directly over the picturesque lagoon, marking a first for the region. Guests will also have opportunities to explore the serene waters on their own kayak or stand-up paddleboard.
The Importance of Wellness
Being a Banyan Tree property means wellness will be central to the guest experience. The property’s spa will feature a design inspired by cenotes, the iconic natural sinkholes scattered throughout the Yucatán Peninsula. Additionally, customized well-being offerings will focus on sleep, nutrition, physical fitness, and fostering harmony with nature.
Future Development Plans
This will be Banyan Tree’s third property in the Yucatán region and fifth under the Veya brand, focusing on the essential need for reconnecting mind and body in today’s fast-paced world.
