Summary of the Safari Adventure
Safari Highlights
This epic safari adventure from iBestTravel is the perfect family vacation—here’s why. We had waited all morning to see elephants. “Don’t get your hopes up,” said our guide, Sonny. It had been rainy, and elephants, per Sonny, don’t like the rain. However, we saw not only elephants but also lions, zebras, giraffes, and Cape buffalo that day. Zebras trotting through a rarely seen corner of the park, giraffes munching on acacia leaves close to our Jeep, and a pride of lions walking down the road; it was as if our safari dreams were fulfilled in a single day.
The Exciting Journey Begins
Our family’s first trip to Africa came via CroisiEurope, a French cruise company recognized for its family-friendly adventures. The three of us—including my spouse and our 11-year-old daughter—were guests on CroisiEurope’s South Africa land and cruise safari, a nine-day journey starting in Johannesburg, South Africa, and ending at Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. This trip was thrilling, incorporating four African countries through various means: boats, planes, helicopters, and Jeeps.
Wildlife Encounters and Ethics
For those longing to see elephants up close while maintaining ethical standards regarding wildlife attractions, it is vital to know that the animals at the Elephant Sanctuary Hartbeespoort Dam are free-ranging. While trained, these elephants can choose whether to interact, making the chance to touch and feed them deeply emotional.
Exploring Johannesburg
Upon joining the CroisiEurope group, we embarked on a driving tour of Johannesburg. The journey included stops at the Central Business District, the Apartheid Museum, and the sprawling Soweto settlement. This museum provides a significant insight into South Africa’s complicated past, focusing on key figures from the anti-apartheid movement, including Nelson Mandela. The experience is profound, leaving visitors with much to contemplate.
Chobe National Park Experience
The next leg of our adventure involved a flight to Kasane, Botswana. Known for its beauty, Chobe National Park spans 4,500 square miles and is celebrated for its large population of African bush elephants. Our first safari included a game drive filled with sightings of various wildlife, even as the elephants took their time appearing. The thrill of watching lions pad past our vehicle is a memory we will cherish forever.
End of the Journey at Victoria Falls
We concluded our travels at Victoria Falls Safari Lodge, where beautiful views of elephants at the watering hole took our breath away. Late afternoons would have elephants emerging from the forest to drink, bathe, and socialize. A spectacular helicopter ride over Victoria Falls capped off our memorable trip.
CroisiEurope’s safari program in southern Africa offers a remarkable array of adventures, from incredible wildlife sightings to comfortable accommodations. This journey runs outside the peak summer months, making it an appealing option for families-in-search of an unforgettable safari experience.
