Vuhl 05: Mexico’s First Supercar
In 2013, the Echevarría brothers, Iker and Guillermo, unveiled the Vuhl 05, marking a significant milestone in the automotive industry as Mexico’s first supercar. This high-performance vehicle has garnered attention for its unique design and engineering excellence.
Official Orders and Design Collaborations
The manufacturer began accepting orders in 2016, showcasing their commitment to bringing the Vuhl 05 to international markets.
To refine the vehicle’s aesthetics, the Italian design agency Esiste collaborated with the Echevarría brothers, ensuring that the Vuhl 05 would stand out for its striking appearance.
Global Parts and Assembly
The foundational structure of the Vuhl 05 is proudly Mexican, while approximately 50% of its components are sourced from Britain. The engine is crafted in the United States, with some body panels originating from Canada. This amalgamation of parts highlights the global collaboration involved in bringing the Vuhl 05 to life.
Performance Specifications
The standard Vuhl 05 boasts an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 400bhp per tonne. For enthusiasts seeking even higher performance, the Vuhl 05RR, launched in the same year, elevates this figure to an astounding 600bhp per tonne, positioning it alongside some of the world’s most elite supercars, like the Bugatti Veyron.
Weight and Transmission
This lightweight construction results in the Vuhl 05RR weighing only 725kg, significantly less than many competitors, such as the BMW M2. Additionally, drivers will appreciate the six-speed manual transmission, a deliberate choice to enhance the driving experience rather than offering an automatic option.
A Timeless Design Philosophy
As Iker states, “It will age well through time.” The intent behind the Vuhl 05 and its successors is to achieve a balance of effective simplicity and aesthetics that are guided by functionality.
