How Would You Describe Nairobi?
Nairobi is a sum of chaos and beauty; it’s a mix of the old trying to stand strong and the new attempting to disrupt that balance. It is a beautiful city that is constantly evolving, featuring new highways and fascinating architecture. The people make Nairobi special; we have diverse cultures from all over Africa here. The locals are welcoming, which has attracted many individuals who fall in love with the city and choose to live here. Whenever I think of home, Nyama choma roast meat comes to mind.
We Have 24 Hours on the Ground. What’s the Hit List?
For a delightful culinary experience, Nairobi Street Kitchen in the Westlands area offers a variety of restaurants with different cuisines to sample. If you’re a fan of Indian cuisine, the classic Open House restaurant is a must-visit. Additionally, Cultiva features an exciting farm-to-table menu with some of the most creative dishes. A favorite experience is Kitengela Hot Glass; it’s a glass-making factory that utilizes recycled glass and showcases skilled craftsmanship in shaping various homeware items. For history enthusiasts, walking tours around the city center provide insights into the history of its buildings.
Where Are We Shopping? And How About Art?
Nairobi boasts numerous cool local brands, with my all-time favorite being Suave Kenya, a sustainable brand creating bags from recycled materials. Westgate shopping mall has an array of locally made items worth exploring. Circle Art Gallery provides a fantastic venue to discover contemporary artists. For music lovers, Gondwana Kenya is a vibrant collective that organizes incredible concerts throughout Nairobi, showcasing amazing DJs and live artists.
Where to Stay?
For interesting accommodation options, solo travelers may consider The Brandy Bus located in Karen, or the charming Dawn Chorus, a lovely treehouse in Loresho. Couples will enjoy The Windy Ridge in Karen, an enchanting Airbnb. Another unique option is The Tree House, situated in a private forest where you can enjoy a tranquil escape with your family.
Your All-Time Favorite Spot?
Travel-wise, my favorites include Lamu and Laikipia. In Nairobi, my go-to dining spot is Pronto in the CBD, known for its excellent food selection and fair prices.
Why Should You Travel to Kenya?
The diverse landscapes and the warmth of the people are unparalleled. Travelers can experience breathtaking sunsets in the Samburu landscape and then dive at some of the most pristine beaches in the world within just a few hours.
