Astonishing Winners and Their Captivating Images
This photo is the joint winner in the “Photograph of the Year” category in the second annual Natural Landscape Photography Awards. It depicts the shadow cast by some peaks on the surface of the Lowell Glacier, in Kluane National Park, Yukon Territory, Canada. “It was taken on a July morning in 2022 from a Cessna 172 single-engine aircraft as part of a decades-long project on glaciers,” says Canadian photographer Jim Lamont, emphasizing the urgent need for action against climate change.
Austrian photographer Philipp Jakesch won the joint prize for “Photograph of the Year” with this striking capture of a volcanic site on the Reykjanes Peninsula, Iceland. The intense heat and beauty of the landscape are evident in his work.
The coveted title of “Photographer of the Year” was awarded to American Brent Clark for his stunning portrayals of diverse American wilderness scenes. His image, titled “Amor Fati,” captures a magical moment as light breaks through a mountain pass, illuminating the serene sand dunes of California.
Brent Clark continues to impress with another remarkable piece titled “The Elements,” showcasing the stunning fresh ice patterns on a mountainside in Wyoming. His commitment to capturing the essence of nature shines through.
Romanian photographer Daniel Mîrlea achieved the “Project of the Year” award with his captivating series “Forests,” highlighting one of Romania’s natural treasures, which are unfortunately endangered despite being part of various natural parks.
American photographer Kevin Monahan triumphed in the “Grand Scenic” category with a breathtaking image from the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, capturing mountains reflecting in a tranquil alpine lake during a stunning sunrise.
Andre Donawa’s image “The Great Wave,” taken in Barbados, earned him first place in the “Seascapes” category, showcasing the magnificent beauty of ocean waves.
Brian Pollock’s evocative photograph captures the fleeting moments of winter in the Scottish Highlands, where snow gracefully blankets Scots Pine trees before an unexpected early heatwave.
Matt Jackisch’s striking image captures the grandeur of legendary 8,000-meter mountains in Northern Pakistan. His words convey the sheer isolation of the landscape during the cold winter months.
