Netflix is making it easier for friends to connect no matter where they are self-isolating in the world with the launch of its new ‘party’ feature.
With so many people staying at home to break the chain, we find ourselves with plenty of time to curl up with a good show as the coronavirus pandemic disrupts the world as we know it.
A group of developers is making self-isolation a bit easier by introducing a new Chrome extension for Netflix called ‘Netflix Party.’ This innovative tool allows users to simultaneously stream Netflix with friends and family, regardless of their location. Users can stay in sync by playing and pausing the show at the same time. Moreover, you can dissect all the good, funny, and sad moments together in real time through a sidebar that facilitates group chat.
To access this feature, you simply need to install the Netflix Party extension here. After installation, it will appear in your toolbar as ‘NP.’ Play a TV show or movie on Netflix, launch Netflix Party, and then send the URL to your friends, who also need to download the extension. Consequently, once they click on the link, they’ll be redirected to Netflix to join your virtual viewing party while adhering to social distancing rules. Please note that this is not an official Netflix feature, so it is only available on laptops and desktops.
