The New Mexico State Fair is much more than an annual event; it showcases the best entertainment and activities New Mexico provides. As the warm summer season transitions into fall, fair visitors can enjoy the exhilarating atmosphere filled with food, exhibits, competitions, and dynamic themes that change yearly.
This vibrant fair takes place in Albuquerque at the Expo New Mexico Fairgrounds, bordered by Louisiana to the east, San Pedro to the west, Central to the south, and Lomas to the north.
When Is the New Mexico State Fair?
The New Mexico State Fair will run from Thursday, September 7 through Sunday, September 17, 2023, for a total of 10 consecutive days. An exciting highlight includes the State Fair parade, which starts at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, September 10, at the corner of Louisiana and Central, traveling east before reaching Eubank Boulevard.

New Mexico State Fair Admission
Admission prices to the State Fair have remained unchanged since 2007:
- Adult: $10 (ages 12-64)
- Senior: $7 (ages 65 and up)
- Children: $7 (ages 6-11)
- Children 5 and under are admitted free.
The fair offers numerous activities, many of which are free once you pay the entrance fee. Enjoy the engaging 4-H exhibits, McDonald’s Farm, rodeos, and more without additional costs.
Carnival Midway at New Mexico State Fair
This year, the highly regarded Reithoffer Shows will run the Midway, ensuring thrilling rides and entertainment. The carnival opens Monday through Friday at 2 p.m., while Saturday and Sunday it opens at 10 a.m. Kiddieland will also welcome guests starting at 10 a.m. each day.
The Kidsway Carnival, located north of the Indian Arts Gallery, opens on Thursday, September 8, at 10 a.m., remaining accessible throughout the Fair.
For many visitors, particularly families, the Carnival or Midway is the main attraction within the fairgrounds. Mega bands can be purchased for $28 at the State Fair, valid on weekdays and offering free admission to the fair along with a wristband usable any day.
Rodeo at the New Mexico State Fair
The Rodeo features not only the anticipated barrel racing but also includes live music, making it an affordable entertainment choice. Ticket prices for Rodeo/concert events range from $15 to $35, with the addition of admission to the State Fair included in concert tickets. Events begin at 6:45 p.m.
Concerts will take place in Tingley Coliseum during the PRCA Rodeo. This year’s lineup highlights various country music stars, making it a must-see event for fans.
Hours for the New Mexico State Fair
The State Fair opens daily at 10 a.m., with general operational hours from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. from Sunday through Thursday, and extending until 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Notably, rodeo concerts will begin prompting doors to open at 6 p.m., with performances commencing at 6:45 p.m. and concerts at 8:30 p.m.
The Manuel Luan Complex will follow the same daily schedule, and the Exhibit Buildings open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Entertainment stages operate Monday through Friday from noon to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Tickets can be obtained in advance at the State Fair Box Office, conveniently located just inside Gate 3 off San Pedro, nestled between Lomas and Central, identifiable by turquoise awnings. Current hours for the box office are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
