Hidden NYC Bar Favored by ‘SNL’ Stars Features Secret Entrance

Convenient Location in Midtown Manhattan

Pebble Bar is conveniently located in Midtown Manhattan. Secret entrances make everything cooler, especially when they have a history involving celebrities. This element of mystique contributes to the appeal of the new Pebble Bar, which has rapidly become a popular spot for tourists, the midtown work crowd, and celebrity sightings since its opening in late February.

The History of Pebble Bar’s Venue

A saloon called Hurley’s used to inhabit the four-story townhouse located on the corner of 49th street and 6th Avenue before closing in 2000. With its proximity to Rockefeller Center, Hurley’s became quite the watering hole for NBC bigwigs, notably Johnny Carson, Jack Paar, and David Letterman during its heyday. Carson was known to use a secret entrance directly from NBC studios, which adds to the venue’s allure.

Celebrity Appeal

The secret entrance still exists, and although it hasn’t been confirmed that any celebrities have used it recently, Pebble Bar has already attracted notable names such as Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, and Jimmy Fallon. In fact, Fallon has inspired a specific cocktail at Pebble Bar, called the “Ginny Fallon,” which is crafted to his taste preference.

Makers of this popular bar include various celebrity investors like Pete Davidson, Nicholas Braun, Justin Theroux, Mark Ronson, and Jason Sudeikis. The influence of Grammy and Oscar winner Ronson, alongside a founding team renowned for diverse venues, solidifies Pebble Bar’s status as a trendy locale.

Design and Ambiance

Brizzi describes Pebble Bar’s space, designed by Gachot Studios, as capable of fitting into “any era of the Rockefeller Center/Radio City story.” Pebble Bar comprises three key areas. Upon entering, visitors first encounter a vibrant bar room filled with delightful music. The cocktail room above offers a more intimate setting, featuring a raw bar and light bites with limited reservations.

For guests eager for a lively atmosphere (perhaps with some celebrity presence), Johnny’s on the next floor offers a larger group setting with entertainment options, adding to the overall experience.

Food and Drinks

In addition to Fallon’s cocktail, another popular recommendation is The Dude, featuring bourbon, ginger, saffron, and dandelion. Brizzi’s personal favorite is the Martini 1-H, made with gin or vodka, vermouth, and citrus oil served on the rocks. Guests should also consider trying executive chef Carlos Barrera’s Kampachi Ceviche and smoked-and-torched Mackerel for a delightful culinary experience.

Pebble Bar is actively working to expand availability for day-of and walk-in guests, yet currently, the optimal approach would be to plan a reservation at least one month in advance.

Pebble Bar is situated at 67 West 49th St and operates from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Thursday to Saturday and 5 p.m. to midnight Sunday to Wednesday.
