The fall, particularly toward the end of hurricane season, also presents an opportunity for relatively quieter experiences in the Florida Keys. Nonetheless, keep in mind that fall weather in the Keys is generally hot and humid, unlike the cooler northern climates.

Conversely, winter months (November to February) offer mild and pleasant weather, although January experiences the coldest average temperature at a comfortable 65 degrees Fahrenheit. The water is relatively cold during this time, suggesting that a short wetsuit may be required for diving or snorkeling.
Late spring often strikes a balance, presenting warm water and pleasant temperatures before summer crowds fully descend.

Finding affordable options in the Florida Keys can be tricky, as there isn’t a distinctly bad time to visit. Typically, the best deals can be found during off-peak months like September and November.
The winter months and peak summer periods see the highest prices due to increased demand. In the shoulder seasons of May and June, visitors may find some competitive offers.
Best Times to Visit the Florida Keys for Being Out on the Water
Although beaches in the Florida Keys are limited, the region is renowned for its boating opportunities. Visitors often come to the Florida Keys to dive, snorkel, fish, or enjoy boating between reefs and sandbars.
During winter, locals typically avoid ocean activities due to the colder waters. In contrast, summer provides warmer temperatures; however, it also leads to intense heat and frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Lobstering is a popular activity during the “mini season,” the two-day period before the main season starts in early August. This activity is best undertaken from personal boats, although some companies offer charters for those interested. If you’re sensitive to extreme heat, summertime in the Keys may not be suitable for you. Conversely, if you wish to dive or snorkel but dislike cold water, winter might be less appealing.
