Summary
Introduction
The Orient Express is officially setting sail.
The Orient Express has expanded beyond its iconic train to establish itself as a prominent luxury hospitality brand under the Accor umbrella. A revival of the historic train is expected to launch in 2025. However, the brand is also focusing on new ventures, including luxury hotels in Paris, Rome, and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Recently, the team unveiled plans for its next endeavor: a lavish cruise experience aboard what Accor claims will be the world’s largest sailing yacht.
The Luxurious Orient Express Silenseas
The remarkable 722-foot vessel, named Orient Express Silenseas, is set to feature 54 luxurious suites. These accommodations include a presidential suite that spans 15,200 square feet, complete with a private terrace of 5,700 square feet. Moreover, the yacht will boast two pools, two fine dining restaurants, an oyster bar, a speakeasy, a theater, and even a private recording studio for a truly exclusive experience.
Design Inspirations and Sailing Routes
Sébastien Bazin, the CEO of Accor, remarked, “With Orient Express Silenseas, we are beginning a new chapter in our history, taking the experience and excellence of luxury travel and transposing it onto the world’s most beautiful seas.” The vessel’s interior design will be crafted by architect Maxime d’Angeac, who is also tasked with restoring the iconic Orient Express carriages for the 2025 train revival.
Inspired by the breathtaking French Riviera, the Silenseas will cruise the Mediterranean during the summer months and the Caribbean throughout the winter. The yacht’s exterior aesthetic, envisioned by Stirling Design International, draws from the streamline moderne architectural movement of the 1930s, reflecting the elegance of the art deco era.
Sustainability Features
In addition to its lavish amenities, the yacht will incorporate a hybrid propulsion system. Initially, it will utilize liquified natural gas (LNG) and is expected to transition to green hydrogen once it receives regulatory approval for use in commercial vessels. This commitment to sustainability aligns with the growing demand for eco-friendly travel options.
Launch and Operations
Currently, the Orient Express Silenseas is slated to begin operations in 2026, with plans to offer a unique sailing experience. Consequently, interested travelers can look forward to booking opportunities becoming available in 2024. This venture promises to elevate luxury travel and redefine expectations for cruising.
