This trend underscores the importance of the recently unveiled 100 Best Restaurants for Outdoor Dining for 2022.
OpenTable meticulously analyzed 13.6 million verified reviews from diners across the platform to curate a diverse list featuring restaurants from 25 states. These acclaimed venues not only offer breathtaking views but also serve exquisite dishes, ensuring an overall delightful outdoor dining experience.
Restaurants in sunnier states dominated the list, particularly California, which claimed 37 positions across cities like Palm Springs. Notable mentions include Copley’s on Palm Canyon, FARM, and Spencer’s Restaurant. Florida follows with 11 featured restaurants in cities like Naples and Key West, showcasing a rich and diverse culinary landscape.
Among the standout selections from OpenTable’s list are 1906 at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania; Barca Wine Bar & Pier in Alexandria, Virginia; and many more restaurants spread across various vibrant locales that offer a unique outdoor experience.
“Outdoor dining has significantly contributed to the resilience of the restaurant sector during challenging times. Many establishments have adapted by enhancing and expanding their outdoor spaces,” remarked OpenTable’s chief growth officer in a recent statement. “As outdoor dining becomes a crucial aspect of restaurants’ operations, it’s gratifying to witness diners continuing to engage with this experience.” From urban sidewalk cafes to charming venues adorned with string lights and fire pits, outdoor dining experiences can vary widely.
Notably, urban areas exhibited the most substantial growth in outdoor dining options. For example, New York City reported a remarkable 141% increase, followed by San Francisco at 126% and Las Vegas at 108%. Consequently, cities like Boston, Beverly Hills, and Philadelphia also showed significant growth, indicating a shift towards increased outdoor dining availability.
To establish their rankings, OpenTable evaluated reviews gathered between May 1, 2021, and April 30, 2022. The criteria included a minimum overall rating based on various factors like diner feedback, total review counts, and regional comparisons. The rankings were ultimately determined by the frequency of reviews highlighting “outdoor dining” as a preferred feature.
