Palazzo Fiuggi Spa Review: Experience The Ranch’s Wellness Retreat

Experience Wellness at Palazzo Fiuggi

Set the scene

Enveloped in the oak- and beech-clad Lazio hills, just an hour from Rome, Palazzo Fiuggi stands as the first European outpost of the renowned Malibu retreat known for its blend of luxury and wellness. This historic hotel is now enjoying a second life as a sophisticated medi-spa. At Palazzo Fiuggi, two distinct groups converge: the dedicated Ranch guests—comprised of CEOs, actors, and ultra-marathon enthusiasts—and the typical spa visitors indulging in the serene hotel ambiance while enjoying exquisite culinary offerings.

While Ranch guests engage in rigorous daily hikes across the challenging terrain, the more leisurely spa guests relish the marble-clad spaces adorned in white robes, savoring Michelin-standard menus. The dual experience is beautifully maintained; both worlds seldom overlap except in communal areas such as the swimming pool or steam room.

What’s the backstory?

The original wellness retreat was established in 2010 by Alex and Sue Glasscock and has since grown a cult following among committed visitors. Many attendees become ‘Ranchers,’ returning every year, often multiple times, and proudly displaying their ranch pins. At Palazzo Fiuggi, a blend of trained hiking guides and former guests turned guides create an unforgettable hiking experience.

This magnificent hotel first opened its doors as a spa establishment in 1910, attracting notable figures like Sophia Loren and Anthony Quinn. Recently, it has been transformed into a luxury wellness retreat by Lorenzo Giannuzzi, owner of Forte Village. The hotel features a gym situated in what was once the ballroom and boasts three thalassotherapy pools. An extensive team of medical professionals is available for health assessments, including ECGs, urinalysis, and blood tests, alongside skilled personal trainers and yoga instructors.

At the heart of Palazzo Fiuggi’s culinary excellence, renowned chef Heinz Beck oversees the main restaurant, presenting artful dishes that balance flavor and health. Other talented chefs, schooled by Ranch cook Meredith Haaz, prepare innovative meals ranging from macadamia parmigiana to intriguing cauliflower burgers, not to mention the signature granola that’s become a guest favorite. Therefore, guests can indulge in a remarkable dining experience that complements their wellness journey.

In summary, Palazzo Fiuggi effortlessly merges luxury with wellness, inviting guests to embrace rejuvenation through a rich blend of activities, gourmet dining, and serene surroundings.
