Travel restrictions have constantly evolved since the pandemic began in 2020, particularly around the need for passenger locator forms. Initially introduced as a method to monitor those returning to the UK who may have tested positive for Covid or come into contact with someone who did, the form was later updated in 2021 to include vaccine information.
Do I need to fill out a passenger locator form for the UK?
No—since 18 March 2022, there have been no travel restrictions for anyone flying into the UK, regardless of vaccination status.
Transport Secretary Grant Shapps announced in mid-March that all remaining Covid travel measures would be lifted. This included the Passenger Locator Form and testing for all arrivals, effective from 4am on 18 March. Such changes, made possible through the ongoing vaccine rollout, allow for greater travel freedom.
While you don’t need to complete anything Covid-related to enter the UK, it’s advisable to stay updated with government advisories before your trip. Some experts suggest that the passenger locator form may remain an option and could be reinstated if Covid cases rise again.
Do other countries require a passenger locator form?
Several countries, particularly within the EU, may still require a version of a locator form for entry. However, as of 15 March 2022, countries like Greece have lifted this requirement, and Spain no longer mandates form completion for fully vaccinated travelers. Italy removed this requirement in early May 2022, while Portugal has also ceased the need for a form for entry.
