‘Pretty Woman’ at 25: Where Are They Now? Published 9:52 AM EDT, Fri March 20, 2015 The Simpsons remains Azaria's bread and butter, more than 25 years later: He voices Moe, Apu, Chief Wiggum, and several other characters. He's also had time to appear on a number of other shows, including Mad About You, Huff, and Friends, and the 50-year-old actor had notable performances in 1994's Quiz Show and 1996's The Birdcage. Would anybody have gone to see a gritty drama about prostitution called $3,000? We never had to find out, because that script was turned into Pretty Woman, one of the most successful romantic comedies of all time. The 1990 film made a star of Julia Roberts and gave Richard Gere his first hit in years. What are they up to now? Roberts, who played hooker-with-a-heart-of-gold Vivian Ward in the film, was a 22-year-old rising star, having earned good notices for 1988's Mystic Pizza and an Oscar nomination for 1989's Steel Magnolias. Pretty Woman made her one of Hollywood's biggest names. She also received an Oscar nomination for the film. Roberts, 47, remains a huge draw. She won an Oscar for 2000's Erin Brockovich and has appeared in such hits as 1994's My Best Friend's Wedding, 1999's Notting Hill and 2001's Ocean's Eleven. She had a short-lived marriage to Lyle Lovett in the '90s. In 2002, she married Danny Moder, with whom she has three children. Before Pretty Woman, Gere's career was struggling after such flops as 1985's King David and 1988's Power. In Woman, he plays Edward Lewis, a corporate raider -- but one who sees the error of his greed. After the film, Gere's career remained hit or miss, though he received excellent notices for his turn as lawyer Billy Flynn in 2002's Chicago. The 65-year-old actor has been politically active, standing up for AIDS awareness, environmental causes, and human rights in Tibet. Unless you caught him in a McDonald's commercial, Jason Alexander was better known for his Broadway career at the time of Pretty Woman: He won a Tony in 1989 for Jerome Robbins' Broadway. Of course, there was that struggling TV show in its first season -- Seinfeld. In Woman, Alexander plays Gere's villainous lawyer. Alexander didn't get much of a bounce from Woman, but that Seinfeld series did OK -- becoming one of the greatest sitcoms of all time. Since Seinfeld went off the air in 1998, Alexander, now 55, has starred in a couple TV series, guested on many more, and sung with orchestras. Laura San Giacomo plays Roberts' roommate, Kit De Luca. San Giacomo had just come off the influential 1989 film sex, lies and videotape and had a featured role on the soap All My Children. After Woman, San Giacomo, now 52, starred in the long-running sitcom Just Shoot Me and the drama Saving Grace. She also helped found an elementary school in the San Fernando Valley. The legendary Ralph Bellamy plays James Morse, a shipbuilding mogul. Bellamy's long career included such films as 1937's The Awful Truth, 1940's His Girl Friday, and 1983's Trading Places. Pretty Woman was his last film; he died in 1991. Alex Hyde-White plays Morse's grandson, James, who also has some feelings for Roberts' character. Hyde-White is the son of the famed British actor Wilfrid Hyde-White and had been in 1989's Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Hyde-White, now 56, has acted occasionally since Woman -- he's had roles in 2002's Catch Me If You Can and 2012's Game Change, among others -- but he's devoted more time to producing, especially audiobooks. Hector Elizondo plays hotel manager Barney Thompson, who first dislikes Roberts' character but eventually becomes a kind of father figure to her. Elizondo, a hard-working character actor, had been in numerous TV shows as well as such movies as 1974's The Taking of Pelham One Two Three, 1980's American Gigolo (with Gere), and a number of films by Woman director Garry Marshall. Elizondo, now 78, continues to be an in-demand character actor. Marshall has cast him in every movie he's made, and Elizondo was also a regular on the TV show Chicago Hope and a semi-regular on Monk. Hank Azaria has a small role in Pretty Woman. He's billed as, simply, Detective. Prior to the film, he'd had a handful of minor TV roles and had just started supplying his voice to an animated series called The Simpsons in 1989.
