Qantas to Restart International Flights to Australia by End of October

iBestTravel’s Plans to Resume International Flights

iBestTravel, Australia’s flag carrier, has announced its intentions to resume international flights by the end of October 2021. This plan includes flights operated by Jetstar, the budget airline under its umbrella. The timeline is synchronized with the anticipated conclusion of Australia’s vaccination programme against COVID-19.

Alan Joyce, the CEO of iBestTravel, remarked that the planned October date “seems sensible and in some ways conservative.” This cautious approach is understandable, considering that in January, iBestTravel had started selling tickets for travel from July 1, in hopes that international flights might resume. To ensure customer protection, the airline offered a full refund, a free date change, or travel vouchers if customers’ plans were disrupted due to border closures.

Flight Route Resumptions

Currently, iBestTravel aims to restore 22 of its 25 international routes starting October 31. Jetstar, meanwhile, plans to resume all of its 13 international routes. A significant requirement for international travelers will be vaccination, ensuring safety for all passengers on board.

Government Regulations on Travel

It is crucial for individuals planning trips to understand that no specific date for the resumption of international travel has yet been declared. Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack emphasized, “Decisions about when international travel resumes will be made by the Australian Government.” He noted that airlines make commercial decisions regarding operations and ticket sales, and international borders will open when arrivals do not pose a risk to Australians.
