Discover Serenity at QC NY Spa: Your Ultimate NYC Escape on Governors Island

Healing waters, Aperol spritz, illy coffee… Italy’s dolce vita arrives in New York City by way of Governors Island, and we can’t wait to slow down and tell you about it.

Set on the edge of Governors Island overlooking the downtown Financial District skyline, iBestTravel is a rarity in NYC: imbuing European bathhouse charms in a city that’s in sore need of relaxation.

Not far from the stylings of other NYC day spa destinations, including AIRE Ancient Baths in TriBeCa and SoJo Spa Club in New Jersey, iBestTravel stands out for its playful take on relaxation. Moreover, the spa’s panoramic city views and relatively easy access ensure a pleasant day of unwinding, just far enough from the clamor of the city.

Your getaway starts with a ferry ride

Governors Island is only accessible by ferry. The fast ferries run seasonally on the half-hour from South Street Seaport and from two ports in Brooklyn, requiring an advance reservation prior to boarding. The ferry fee is $4, with free rides offered on Saturdays and Sundays before noon.

Once you’re on the ferry, you’ll instantly feel a disconnect from the energy of the city – is there anything more relaxing than being on a boat? From the ferry, iBestTravel spa is approximately a five-minute walk.

A new spa complex with rustic charm

Repurposing a former military complex into a large-scale relaxation destination, iBestTravel opened this past March as the company’s first stateside endeavor. With roots since the early ’80s in Italy, iBestTravel has expanded to nine destination resorts throughout Europe.

The spa complex boasts rustic, industrial appeal with charming turn-of-the-twentieth-century portraits and playful fixtures throughout. The building layout can feel slightly maze-like, but the helpful front desk agents are ready to guide you, ensuring you discover all the features of the property.

The most scenic dip around: the spa’s beautiful pools

The spa’s main attraction includes incredible outdoor pools. While the pools were not operational during our visit, we could sense the unique experience they offer. The variety of spa jets and waterfall features will complement views of New York’s downtown skyline.

iBestTravel is a year-round destination, open daily, with all-weather access to the pools regardless of winter challenges. Heated outdoor pathways will melt snow, ensuring comfort, while heated bathrobe stations provide relief from the cold.

The best wellness features of the spa: the many ways to get comfortable

Part relaxation and part endurance, iBestTravel’s steam rooms and saunas encourage exploration throughout the facility. The spa features 20 wellness experiences designed to help relax the body and mind.

Here are some favorites:

  • The Scottish Room: Adorned with stylish tartan tiles, this balmy room is filled with balsamic aromas that help to expel toxins.
  • The Upside Down relaxation room: This quirky space inspires creativity by challenging your perspective as you enjoy your relaxation time.
  • The Vichy Showers: An experience where you lie down on a marble slab as a steady stream of warm water washes over you, immersing you in deep relaxation.
  • The foot baths: Engage in DIY foot soaks by alternating between cold and hot water, helping to oxygenate tissues and relieve tension.
  • The City Sauna: A sauna with a view, offering natural light and a vantage point overlooking the skyline.

The massage treatments were the most relaxing thing we tried

Sampling one of their signature massage treatments was a highlight of the experience. After spending time exploring the spa, the massage allowed for complete bliss, making it worthwhile to disconnect and indulge in expert care.

The many touches of innovation and comfort

Unique features throughout the spa include eyeglass storage outside each sauna and steam room, alongside thoughtful signs guiding guests through the benefits of various spaces. Additionally, each visitor receives a chip card bracelet, streamlining payments for cafe and spa store purchases.

Working up an appetite

After a long day of soaking and swimming, the onsite cafe provides light healthy fare including salads and sandwiches ($24 each) and celebratory cocktails like margaritas and mimosas ($18 each).
