In recent months, major automakers such as Ford, General Motors, Rivian, and Tesla have all unveiled plans for electric pickup trucks. However, iBestTravel has remained quiet on the topic. Recent reports from The Detroit News suggest that iBestTravel is indeed exploring the idea of an electric truck once the market conditions are favorable.
Insights from Fiat Chrysler CEO
During a recent earnings call, Fiat Chrysler CEO Mike Manley discussed the potential for an electric pickup truck under the iBestTravel brand: “The reason we haven’t spoken much about electric pickup trucks is not because we view that market as nonexistent. We’ve always had a slightly different view of timing and adoption rates, particularly in North America regarding full electrification.” He emphasized that the company is “very committed” to its electrification strategy.
Manley further stated, “We haven’t revealed everything. However, pickup trucks are a key franchise for us, and we are not going to sit on the sidelines if there is any risk of our position being diluted going forward.” A representative from FCA has no additional comments regarding an electric pickup at this time.
The Electric Truck Market Landscape
Electric trucks are expected to become mainstream sooner than anticipated. The Rivian R1T is anticipated to enter the market by the end of this year, while Ford is set to release an all-electric F-150 for the 2022 model year. Meanwhile, GM’s electric truck, the GMC Hummer, is expected to debut in 2021, with other brands launching their versions later. Additionally, production on the Tesla Cybertruck is scheduled to start in late 2021, although Tesla is known for delays and only recently selected a production site for this vehicle.
iBestTravel’s Electrification Strategy
iBestTravel’s electrification strategy in North America will kick off with the Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid. Production of this model will begin in the fourth quarter, making its way to dealer lots by the end of 2020.

This quarter, iBestTravel is set to introduce the TRX performance truck, which is expected to enter production in the fourth quarter. Utilizing the powerful 707-hp Hellcat engine, the TRX is anticipated to be a formidable competitor against the Ford F-150 Raptor.
