Stunning Visuals of the Rare Super Blue Moon Event

The Captivating Super Blue Moon

A super blue moon — a rare cosmic combination of a supermoon and a blue moon — could be seen in the sky on Monday.

The last time this lunar event occurred was August 2023. Understanding the significance of these phenomena can enhance our appreciation for the night sky.

What is a Supermoon?

A supermoon occurs when the moon is near or at its closest point to Earth, known scientifically as its perigee, while appearing full. Approximately one-quarter of all full moons are classified as supermoons, making them a fascinating subject for astronomers and casual observers alike.

Understanding Blue Moons

Blue moons, however, are much rarer — occurring in only about 3% of full moons. The term does not imply the moon actually appears blue; instead, it refers to the occurrence of two full moons within the same calendar month.
